Extend the Life of Your Flowers
Bouquets: Prepare Your Vase
- Use a clean vase to prevent the growth of harmful bacteria
- Fill the vase with fresh, cool water (very cold or hot water can shock the flowers)
- Give the stems a fresh cut before placing them in the vase
- Re-cut every 2-3 days if possible to keep your bouquet fresh
Placement and Environment
- Choose a suitable location and keep your flowers away from direct sunlight, drafts and vents
- Maintain a comfortable room temperature – most flowers thrive between 65-72°F
- For dried flower bouquets, avoid places with high humidity
Water and Maintenance
- Change the water every 1-2 days or as often as you remember
- Remove leaves below the waterline, which prevents the growth of bacteria
- Ensure that all of your stems are submerged in the water
Troubleshooting
- Every stem has a different expected vase life – as blooms expire, pull them out
- For dried flower bouquets, use a blow dryer on a cold, low setting to gently blow off dust that accumulates over time
